$800 bucks - jumps out of your pocket anyway - dicker a bit - follow you heart - if you like it - you should go for it.
A cheap way to listen to that ticking sound is to take a big heavy screwdriver and hold the blade against the rocker covers - put the end of the handle near your ear - you should be able to track the source of the clicking sound - which with a bit of luck are simply loose valve last adjustments.
How was the bike used - how did it accumulate 39K miles? The history of the machine is the critical question not some strange noise - what does the present owner say it is?
